Mt Shivling - Oil on Board - 4.9.2010

The majestic Shivling in Garhwal Himalayas, with Bhagirathi and Gangotri peaks in the background, represents the basis of the mythological event that describes the descent of the Ganges River from heavens onto the locks of Lord Shiva. The Ganges originates from the glacier hidden by the carpet of clouds in the painting. Except for the form of the peaks in the painting, the rest is all my imagination. My sister called it 'Manthan'.

A beautiful image, invoking hope; unlike "The Last Tiger" which has (understandably)some Cimmerian shades!

Please do add few words in terms of name of the location which offers this view and 'possible month' of the year shown in this painting; appears to be pre-Monsoon (judging from extent of snow) and a lesser 'swelling' of clouds

The rest is all imagination. My sister called it 'Manthan' - churning of the environment by Lord Shiva.
